What is ChatHealth?

This service is part of the Tower Hamlets 0-19 School Health and Wellbeing Service which is delivered by GP Care Group.

Our School Health and Wellbeing service has recently launched a new way for young people to get advice and support about health-related issues. ChatHealth is an award-winning confidential messaging service for young people aged 11-19 years, available Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.

ChatHealth gives young people another way to access advice on all kinds of health issues, like sexual health, emotional health and wellbeing, bullying, healthy eating, and any general health concerns.

If you’re a young person and you need to talk, this is how it works

We’ll confirm receipt of your message immediately then you’ll speak to a health professional who will listen, ask questions and support you.  You only have to share what you feel comfortable with and you can ask questions too.

Most teams reply during normal office hours. If you message out-of-hours they’ll reply when they’re next in.  You should always hear back from someone within 24 working hours at most.

If you need help in the meantime contact your doctor or call NHS 111.  If it is an emergency, dial 999 or visit A&E.

Mobile Phone charges 

Your network provider will charge your usual rate for messages you send. We do not usually inform your parents, teachers or anyone else if you contact the school nurse. We might inform someone if we were concerned about your safety, but we would usually speak to you first.

How are my messages stored?

Your messages are stored and can be seen by other healthcare staff who follow the same confidentiality rules. We aim to reply to you within one working day and you should get an immediate bounce-back to confirm we received your text. Texts will not be seen outside of normal working hours.

If you need help before you hear back from us, contact a member of the school staff or your doctor. Our text number does not receive voice calls or MMS picture messages.

Can I only contact my School Nurse via a mobile?

We support messaging from UK mobile numbers only (which does not include messages sent from landlines, international mobile numbers, and some 'number masking' mobile apps).

You can prevent the school nurse from sending messages to you by texting STOP to our number. Please respect your school's mobile phone policy. Messages are charged at your usual rate.
