Celebrating Carers’ Week with our Patient Experience team

It is Carers’ Week next week (9-15 June) and our Patient Experience has reflected on the enormous value carers provide, and available support.

Posted on: 4 June 2025

There are a range of events and activities taking place during the week, from shared reading for carers, a walking and talking group, through to a carers’ pampering day and a trip to the Wallace Collection.

All Tower Hamlets-based events can be found in the Carers Centre calendar here: Carers Centre Tower Hamlets

Here, our Patient Experience team - Shona Davies, Husna Begum and Masuma Begum – share their thoughts on why carers matter so much:

“Here at the Care Group we are joining with our partners at Tower Hamlets Together (THT) to celebrate Carers’ Week.

“It is an annual campaign which brings together and raises awareness of caring. It aims to highlight the challenges that unpaid carers face and the remarkable contribution they make to families and communities. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to access much-needed support.

“Carers come in all shapes and sizes: they may be a family member, friend or neighbour caring for someone and simply doing what needs to be done. They are anyone who provides regular unpaid care to one or more people with additional needs. This might include physical needs, a learning disability or someone with poor mental health who would not be able to manage without their help. Children and young people can also be carers to their parents or grandparents.

“We hope as many people as possible find out more about what being a carer is all about, and participate in events throughout this marvellous week.”
