Dear Colleagues,
As we celebrate International Nurses Day on Monday 12 May, we recognise the extraordinary contributions of our nurses to the GP Care Group and the health of our communities.
This year's theme – Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies – powerfully affirms the value of your work.
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) emphasises that investing in nurses is a fundamental investment in the health of our communities and the resilience of our economy. Your expertise, dedication, and compassionate care drive positive outcomes for our patients, contribute to the efficiency of our services, and are vital to the overall wellbeing of our population. By supporting you, we contribute to a healthier and more productive society.
We see this principle in action through your:
Clinical excellence – your skilled assessments, interventions, and patient-centred care.
Proactive prevention – through our 0-19 services and in Primary Care, you empower individuals and families to manage their health, providing the crucial early intervention needed.
Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) expertise – your rapid assessment and treatment in our UTC ensures patients receive timely care, avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions and contributing to the efficient use of resources.
Leadership and innovation – you are at the forefront of driving improvements, leading teams, and implementing best practices.
Your work embodies the values and goals of these campaigns, demonstrating the vital role nurses play in shaping the future of healthcare.
This year, we also celebrate the establishment of our new Nursing Forum, a testament to our commitment to empowering nurses and improving our culture of shared governance. This forum will provide a platform for nurses across all our services to:
Share best practices – facilitating the spread of innovative and effective care models.
Address challenges – providing a collective voice to overcome obstacles and improve working conditions.
Drive positive change – collaborating on initiatives to enhance clinical excellence, professional development and interprofessional working.
Influence leadership and governance – ensuring nursing perspectives are heard at the highest levels of the organisation.
The Nursing Forum directly supports the Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies theme by investing in our nurses, strengthening our nursing workforce, and driving up economic value. This International Nurses Day, we are proud to celebrate your commitment, your professionalism, and the positive impact you have on our patients and our community.
Thank you for all that you do.
