Cycle Sisters, which is supported by the Care Group, won Women’s Group of the Year at the Tower Hamlets Women’s Awards. The group organises women-only group rides in Tower Hamlets, and group cycle lessons in Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.
Sarah Javaid MBE, Founder and CEO of Cycle Sisters, said: "Muslim women face some of the highest levels of inequality when it comes to physical activity, yet this is an area that’s often overlooked. At Cycle Sisters, we’re changing that – one ride at a time.
“Our Tower Hamlets group is a powerful example of how community-led, culturally sensitive approaches can break down barriers and support women to take control of their health. We’re so grateful to the Care Group for supporting this work and helping us reach more women who might otherwise be excluded from these opportunities."
Deryn Ellis, Tower Hamlets ride leader, said: "I’m so proud we won Women’s Group of the Year – it really means a lot to all of us. It’s such a brilliant example of women supporting other women to feel healthier and more confident.
“I started cycling with Cycle Sisters back in 2021 and honestly haven’t looked back. I never liked PE at school and tried so many times to get into exercise, but nothing ever stuck – until I found Cycle Sisters. Now, as a Ride Leader, I get to support other women on that same journey. The women who join our rides are getting active and enjoying it.”
Zainab Arian, Care Group CEO, said: “I’m thrilled Cycle Sisters has picked up this thoroughly deserved award. We are proud to support this charity, which is having a transformative effect for so many women, simply through riding a bike with friends. We hope many more women can join the group’s activities – the health and wellbeing benefits really are enormous.”
