Empowering Muslim women through cycling in 2025

Building on the success of our partnership with Cycle Sisters and the impactful activities delivered to the community in the past two years, the Care Group is proud to continue sponsoring and supporting this initiative in 2025.

Posted on: 26 March 2025

The collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to improving physical and mental health, boosting confidence, and strengthening community connections through cycling. Cycle Sisters will continue to provide Muslim women in Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest with opportunities to access cycling in a supportive environment.

What’s planned for 2025?

Women-only group rides in Tower Hamlets

Cycle Sisters will deliver entry-level group rides designed for women new to cycling or looking to build confidence.

  • Ride locations: Starting from St Stephen’s Health Centre in Bow, rides will follow scenic and safe local routes, including the Olympic Park, helping women feel more connected to their area.
  • Community outreach: Sessions will be promoted through local events, partnerships, social media, and word-of-mouth networks.

Women-only group cycle lessons in Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest

Cycle Sisters will expand its cycle training programme, shaped by participant feedback and guidance from Somali Community Ambassadors.

  • Inclusive learning: Rather than Somali-specific lessons, women-only group cycle lessons will be introduced to encourage integration and cross-cultural interaction, while still offering tailored support through a Somali Ambassador.
  • Community engagement: The Somali Ambassador will actively promote the sessions through mosques, madrasas, Somali cultural centres, GP events and local businesses.
  • Culturally relevant instruction: Following the successful training of a local Somali woman as a National Standards Cycling Instructor in 2024, she will begin delivering lessons in Tower Hamlets through Bikeworks in 2025.
  • Expanded availability: New lessons will run from April to October, ensuring consistent and accessible opportunities for women.

Leadership and volunteer development

This initiative, delivered by Cycle Sisters and supported by the Care Group, not only enhances health and wellbeing but also creates opportunities for personal and professional growth. It helps more women access leadership roles, qualifications, and potential career pathways in cycling and community work.

We look forward to seeing this programme develop throughout 2025.
