Game, set and match! GPs and Practices matched in Tower Hamlets

Our Training Hub team brought together GPs, GP trainees and local practices to try and help keep them working locally with us.

Posted on: 9 July 2024

The Care Group’s Training Hub team held Tower Hamlets’ first ever GP speed dating event on Tuesday 25 June 2024, with the aim of putting practices in touch with those looking for jobs, be it salaried or locum positions.

It was a very successful networking event, with 12 practices across the borough in attendance. The event gave practices a chance to speak to the newly qualified GPs and answer their questions.

Dr Sasha Abraham Coaching and Mentoring lead: “The current climate is tough for GPs to find regular work, no newly qualified GPs ever thought they would be in a position, where all the work has dried up and practices aren’t recruiting due to financial strains, I wanted to put on this event to help keep colleagues working locally with us.”

Those seeking jobs found it very beneficial, having a number of practices in one place, and appreciated the wealth of information they provided.

Dr Sean Young, in his final year of training as a GP, attended the event. He said: “The networking event was helpful to learn about the different practices across Tower Hamlets. Moving forward, it was a great way to build towards finding regular work after I finish my GP training.”

There was a healthy exchange of emails and numbers on the day, and we hope to report on some successful matches in the near future.

Update 22 July 2024

Following the positive feedback from job seekers at the GP Speed Dating Fair, we are excited to announce that our Training Hub will be hosting the event as an annual recruitment fair every year.
