Last Thursday, Shereen Miller, Catherine Vij, and Hannah Spiring from our South East Locality Health Visiting team were invited to attend Paint the Change's launch event of their 50th global mural on the Rich Mix in Bethnal Green. The giant mural celebrates the diversity in the NHS and is a thank you to staff in the local NHS, for their work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
The mural has over 200 flowers drawn and painted by the local community and elsewhere, which represent the 200 nationalities working in the NHS.
Shereen Miller, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse- Health Visitor said:
"Standing in front of the mural and seeing it up close was breathtaking. The mural was painted by members of the community and those who work in the borough as a thank you to all the work that we do in the NHS. It took six months to complete and will be up for at least a year.
The artist was keen to share his gratitude for all that we have done to keep the service running throughout the pandemic. The mural recognizes the diversity in the borough and in the NHS, which is particularly heart-warming. One of the things I like most about it is the inclusion of nature. At the unveiling, I spoke with the artist about how important biodiversity is to sustain our mental health specifically through this pandemic, not just for our patient/ client group but also for us as practitioners. You would be surprised at how a short walk through your local park (socially distanced of course), or a cycle along the river, positively impacts your mental health and improves overall wellness".
