On your marks! All aboard the Mile End parkrun for the #NHS75 celebrations

Encouragement and a friendly environment attracted one of the largest turnouts ever for the Mile End parkrun earlier this month.

There was a great atmosphere at the Mile End parkrun for the #NHS75 celebrations, which took place on 8 July. Enthusiastic colleagues from the GP Care Group, GP practices, Barts Health, East London Foundation Trust, Tower Hamlets Council and representatives from the voluntary sector joined parkrun volunteers and hundreds of local residents for the occasion.

The event attracted more than 100 first timers and saw one of the biggest overall turnouts (over 400) in recent years.

Zainab Arian, Care Group CEO (Interim) started proceedings with enthusiasm and encouragement for everyone to be active, reminding the crowd that it’s probably the best thing individuals can do to protect their health.

In what may be a unique collaboration, Public Health and others in Tower Hamlets Council, members of the GP Care Group and Mile End parkrun Race Directors meet regularly with the aim of increasing participation across all the communities that make up the population of Tower Hamlets.

Focusing efforts for #NHS75 paid off but the organising team are not complacent and will continue to work to ensure participants at Mile End parkrun are truly representative of the whole wonderfully diverse community.
