Our first intern's insight on the impact of networking

The Care Group is committed to supporting our local community with employment opportunities. Paid internships are just one of the routes to a career with us.

A self-professed “mid-life” crisis or more accurately mid-master's degree crisis led Naseha Ahmed, 23, to some furious job searching in early 2024.  Our advert for a web design internship, caught her attention and she became our very first intern.

Joining the Care Group in April 2024. Naseha, and every intern since, has also secured a full-time role at the Care Group following their internship. This is part of a growing trend where we’ve been able to hire local young people into new and exciting roles.

Naseha graduated with an undergraduate degree in Design Engineering and a master's in advanced Robotics, focusing on haptic technology in robotic non-invasive surgeries. When asked about herself she said: “I love the East London food scene and I’m in a long and happy marriage to butter chicken.”

With our internships you can make the role your own. At the interview stage, Naseha said: “It felt like I was creating the job role with them during the interview to match my skills to expand what the internship was initially offering.” In a short sixth month internship “I learned a lot of skills with a really lovely team and one of the best teams to start off with because you get to do so many different things within the team.”

Naseha’s role developed a lot. Because of the relationships she made, she was hand-picked to provide cover for the corporate manager role which “integrated me really well into the company.” We asked her what she’d advise other interns coming into the Care Group and she said: “As important as your role is and your day-to-day tasks, I think it’s just as important to network with people. It really took me further by networking to get more opportunities within and outside of the company.”

Naseha is now an incredible asset in our Communications and Engagement Team supporting our social media, video production and more as the Communications Assistant.

We'd like to encourage anyone looking to start their career to apply for an internship with us.
