Dr Bede, Clinical Lead and Co-Chair of Tower Hamlets Together (THT) anti-racism and health equity steering group, attended the second Black Health Inequalities Summit at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster on 26 March. She presented a poster laying out her research into the challenge of health inequalities among the Somali community in Tower Hamlets. It also showed how the Somali Health Education website is helping to reduce health inequalities among this population.
Dr Bede discussed the website and health inequalities with Professor Habib Naqvi, Chief Executive of the NHS Race and Health Observatory.
She said: “It was a great opportunity for sharing and learning what anti-racist healthcare interventions can look like. We had a lot of interest in the poster and website, and I have had people from all over the UK asking to use it for their Somali communities.”
