Service user conference celebrates residents making a difference

Our P-RESET team had the opportunity to celebrate the involvement of residents who use substances in the design and delivery of health services.

Our P-RESET Service help colleagues in Primary Care, such as those working in General Practice, to support our residents that use substances so that they can access safer alternatives to using drugs and get access to much needed health care.

Tower Hamlets faces a significant challenge to managing drugs and alcohol as data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) revealed the borough had the highest rates of alcohol-related deaths in

London between 2020-22. There were 16.7 deaths per 100 thousand with men dying twice as much as women.

To address the health needs of this cohort of the population we engage directly with residents who use or have used substances previously to design health services. We celebrated the role of our service users in our provision of services and promote engagement at a conference for Substance Use Service User Involvement.
The conference was held 9 April at the Tower Hamlets Town Hall. It was a great opportunity to meet other stakeholders including service users across the borough and hear from former opiate users.
