Take part in Tower Hamlets Somali Sisters Cycling Project

Posted on: 4 May 2023

Are you a Somali woman in Tower Hamlets looking for a way to improve your overall fitness and health? Look no further: Cycle Sisters are partnering with Bikeworks to help, assist and encourage Somali women to access cycle skills, lessons and build confidence.

Over the coming months, Cycle Sisters will help Somali women on their cycling journey and hopefully they'll join in for their weekly Tower Hamlets rides.

Fellow biking enthusiast the Care Group’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Zainab Arian details the many benefits of the physical activity: “Cycling has given me some time to myself and has helped me with my overall fitness, physical and mental health plus it has opened my social circle. I was amazed at the number of women who cycle especially from BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) backgrounds, something which I was never exposed to growing up. What stopped me from taking up cycling sooner was not seeing enough representation of people who looked like me on bikes.”

This project is funded by the GP Care Group and Tower Hamlets Council. The programme is delivered by Cycle Sisters.
