Join Queen Mary University of London for a weekend of free, family fun at the Festival of Communities!
Come along to the festival to explore the best of the borough; there will be lots of activities, games and demonstrations for all ages. Below are further details about the programme offerings.
Health and wellbeing
Get involved with hands-on activities run by Queen Mary University of London researchers and find out what health and wellbeing services, offered by local community organisations, have to offer. Test your strength, write hidden messages with invisible ink, and find out about the bones in the human body. With opportunities to try Thai boxing and learn how to make pizzas, there is something for everyone.
Local opportunities
Find out about local opportunities with community organisations like the Ocean Regeneration Trust, Sense, Citizens UK, St Joseph’s Hospice, Bromley by Bow Centre, Social Action for Health, Newark Youth London, Tower Hamlets Inter Faith Forum, Trapped in Zone One, Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham, the Stifford Centre, St Dunstan’s Foodbank and more!
Green living
Explore green living in Tower Hamlets with hands-on demonstrations. Learn how insulation can help with the cost of living and test how it works with a hair dryer. Explore Zero Waste shopping and try your hand at felting with recycled materials. Fun-filled quizzes and games will challenge your attitude to waste!
Hands-On Science
Find out about black holes and exoplanets with Queen Mary University of London astrophysicists and join a tour of the rooftop telescope (the observatory dome is visible from Mile End Road). Discover how big a jigsaw puzzle you can make with just one piece and dress up as a scientist. All activities at the festival are accessible to people with mobility impairments and wheelchair users except the telescope tour. Find out more about accessibility.
