Three Youth Advisors appointed to support and co-design young people’s services

Posted on: 25 November 2021

Co-designing services that better match the needs of the people we serve is always a key aim for the GP Care Group and so we are thrilled with the appointment of three Youth Advisors to help support our School Health and Wellbeing service.

Partnering with LEAP and Public Health, the new Youth Advisor roles were funded through the Tower Hamlets' Mayor’s COVID-19 Recovery Fund, specifically for young people who are currently on roll at LEAP or leaving the care system.

Geraldine Collins, GP Care Group School Health and Wellbeing (SHWB) Lead, said: “Working within our SHWB service, the Youth Advisors will support Child Health Nursery Nurses (CHNNs) in designing and delivering young person-led health promotion activities for young people within the Borough.”

Other duties will see the three Youth Advisors, who will be on full-time fixed-term contracts until Nov 2022, support the CHNNs, helping them to fulfill the National Childhood Measurement Programme. There will also be opportunities to work within Public Health and the Council’s Youth Services.

The Youth Advisors will receive ongoing support through a mentor who has been jointly funded by LEAP. It is hoped that the roles may progress to permanent employment within one of the services.
