Food poverty can happen to anybody and it can happen suddenly, leaving people without knowing where to turn for help. Individuals and families can find themselves in economic crisis for many reasons including illness, loss of a job, disability or family breakdown. In Tower Hamlets the First Love Foundation operate a food bank and can provide people and families in this situation with three days' worth of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food as well as providing advice and support to help them out of the poverty trap.
Referrals to a food bank can be made by any care professional, such as GPs, Practice Nurses, Health Visitors, Schools and social workers by emailing a referral form to First Love Foundation. After assessing eligibility, they will email a food voucher for the client that can be exchanged for the food parcel at one of the distribution sites around the Borough.
