Tower Hamlets GP Care Group to provide Waltham Forest's Healthy Child Programme

Posted on: 30 June 2022

From 1 July 2022, Tower Hamlets Care Group (Care Group) is the new provider of the Healthy Child Programme for families living in Waltham Forest.

The Healthy Child Programme provides public health services for families with children aged 0 -19 years. The programme is split into two age groups: 0-5 years which is led by a health visiting service and includes antenatal and postnatal support, encouraging healthy lifestyles while safeguarding and protecting children; and 5-19 which is led by a school nursing service (5-24 for those with special educational needs and disabilities) which provides a link between school, home and the community.

Prior to a competitive recommissioning process the programme was run by North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT).

In the last few months both organisations have been working very closely together to maintain the health and welfare of children and families that use the service.

Waltham Forest Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Naheed Asghar said: “We are delighted to welcome Tower Hamlets Care Group to the Waltham Forest family. We are confident in their experience and knowledge to deliver the Healthy Child Programme with the same high-quality service as they have done in Tower Hamlets.

“As we come out of the pandemic we can strengthen the support for our residents, through a combination of services that put our children, young people and families at the heart of everything we do.

Tower Hamlets Care Group Joint CEO, Chris Banks said: “The Care Group is thrilled to be joining the Waltham Forest family and we are looking forward to playing our part in delivering an integrated approach toward ensuring that Waltham Forest’s children have the best start in life. Residents in the borough will benefit from family orientated, joined up services within our 15-minute neighbourhoods, with single points of access; and tackle inequalities which will ensure that Waltham Forest’s children have the best start in life.

The Care Group already successfully delivers the same programme in Tower Hamlets and are confident about delivering the same high-quality service for Waltham Forest children and families.
