What we do
Tower Hamlets GP Care Group is committed to the protection and safeguarding of all who use our services, including vulnerable adults, children, and young people. The organisation ensures that the outcomes for service users are improved by having robust safeguarding arrangements in place, multi-agency working, and ensures that the voices of children and vulnerable adults are heard.
Safeguarding is everybody's business and all GP Care Group colleagues have a duty of care to safeguard children and adults. The Safeguarding Team supports our colleagues in their safeguarding work and ensures that the organisation complies with all statutory responsibilities in relation to safeguarding.

In an emergency, you should call 999. If you would like to report any other type of crime you should call 101.
If you want to raise a concern, report the abuse of a vulnerable adult, or find out more information, you can call the Assessment and Intervention Team on 020 7364 5005.

How to raise a concern about a child
In an emergency, you should call 999. If you would like to report any other type of crime you should call 101.
If you are concerned that a child or young person is being harmed through abuse or neglect, you should contact the Tower Hamlets Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on
020 7364 5601 or 020 7364 5606.
Alternatively, you can speak to a Police Officer, Teacher, Health Visitor, School Nurse, Doctor, or the NSPCC.
Safeguarding Declaration
Tower Hamlets GP Care Group meets statutory requirements in line with Section 11 of the Children Act.
These include:
- All staff employed undergo a Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check prior to employment. Checks are enhanced or standard depending on the role. All roles where employees have direct contact with service users are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
- The Care Group policies and systems are up to date and are reviewed on a regular basis.
- All eligible staff undertakes relevant safeguarding training, and this is regularly reviewed to ensure that it is up to date.
- The Organisation has a robust training policy in place regarding delivering safeguarding training.
- Safeguarding supervision is undertaken with key professionals ensuring best practice and improved outcomes for children and vulnerable adults.
- Learning from reviews including serious case reviews is disseminated via staff forums, safeguarding children training, and supervision.
Roles and responsibilities
The Safeguarding Team is clear about their roles and responsibilities and receives appropriate support and training to undertake these.
The Director of Quality & Assurance ensures that the organisation fulfils its corporate responsibility and continues to provide direction in relation to safeguarding. The governance arrangements ensure that safeguarding functions are scrutinised by appropriate Directors in sub-committees, where monthly reports are critically reviewed and challenged. The Board of Directors also receives monthly reports for scrutiny and assurance.
The Care Group is a member of the Tower Hamlets Safeguarding Partnerships and actively participates in subgroups and panels.
An audit programme provides assurance that safeguarding systems and processes are in place and are working. This includes multi-agency audits with partner agencies.
Safeguarding arrangements are continuously reviewed to ensure safe and consistent practice and to respond to changes in local and national guidance.
