What we do

Tower Hamlets General Practices care about the health and wellbeing of their patients with drug and alcohol problems. P-RESET, the primary care drug and alcohol service for the GP Care Group, works in partnership with RESET Treatment and Recovery services for problem drug and alcohol use.

These services are funded through the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) in Tower Hamlets and work closely with our local GP practices to deliver drug and alcohol services for the borough. The service is open to all Tower Hamlets residents who are registered with their GP and have been referred to use our service.

Under the P-RESET programme we deliver the following services in GP Practices:

Alcohol can be a risk for your health and wellbeing, which is why the P-RESET team is working with GP Practices to provide patient alcohol screenings, identifying problems, and giving brief advice and referral if appropriate to RESET or other services.

People in treatment in RESET for major problems with alcohol and drug dependency are offered Primary Care Annual Health Check and Health Plan. The team encourages patients to use practice and smoking cessation services as needed.

Treatment for problems with heroin and similar drugs

Tower Hamlets GP Practices will refer patients to RESET Treatment, where the team will continue to provide quality health care. Practices will often provide Shared Care and local pharmacists will dispense prescriptions, as well as can provide needle exchange for people who need it.

Shared Care

Our qualified GPs provide Opioid substitution therapy (OST) provided as ‘Shared Care’ in partnership with RESET Treatment Service Care Coordinators. Please note: This service is for ‘less complex’ community members with opiate/opioid dependency as part of broader treatment.
