Care Group to continue delivering vital local healthcare

Care Group retains contract to deliver health checks, sexual health services and drugs and alcohol support services for Tower Hamlets general practices.

Posted on: 17 March 2026

Tower Hamlets GP Care Group has retained the contract, commissioned by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Public Health, to deliver three key health services in the borough until the end of March 2029.

The Public Health Enhanced Service contract comprises delivery of sexual and reproductive health services, including the Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Hub; NHS Health Checks; and the P-RESET primary care drugs and alcohol support service.

NHS Health Checks

NHS Health Checks is a service for people aged 40-74 and assesses risks of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes. It includes lifestyle advice on alcohol consumption, smoking, diet and exercise. Tower Hamlets GP Practices have already achieved over 9,500 NHS Health Checks in the 2025/26.

P-RESET drug and alcohol service

P-RESET supports GP practices to provide care for people with drug and alcohol problems. It is a partnership with Tower Hamlets Council’s commissioned drug and alcohol service, RESET, run by Change, Grow, Live. P-RESET supports all but one Tower Hamlets practice to deliver alcohol screening and intervention, GP shared care prescribing and annual health checks and care plans for RESET-registered patients.

Sexual health service
This service includes screening for sexually transmitted infections and delivery of the Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Hub. The LARC Hub is designed to deliver high-quality sexual and reproductive health services in primary care. It was established to improve access and increase uptake of LARC in areas with historically low provision. In 2024/25, 425 LARC procedures were completed, with a 91% satisfaction rate.

Vicky Scarborough, Executive Director of Service Delivery and Integration at Tower Hamlets GP Care Group, said: “We are delighted to retain this contract, which enables us to support primary care and local residents with a range of health issues. The NHS Health Checks are a vital part of identifying health risks earlier. They enable preventative action to be taken so more people can avoid the need for a hospital visit. We look forward to delivering this contract, in partnership with primary care and residents, to improve health outcomes for local people.”
