Dr Ballal Seddique, GP for Jubilee Street Practice, was awarded highly commended in the Outstanding Educator category at the recent Royal College of General Practitioners Awards.

The award was in recognition of the First Aid course he developed for healthcare, admin and school staff across Tower Hamlets. The programme uses state-of-the-art interactive software, has received five-star feedback, and will be rolled out to all schools in Tower Hamlets in 2026.

On receiving his award he said "A huge thank you as well to the Care Group and Ekramul Hoque, Assistant Director for Workforce Transformation, Inclusion & Health Inequalities at the Care Group for being behind the First Aid project from day one, through planning to delivery. Having my parents in the audience made it all the more special, and it meant a lot to thank them publicly for all their support."

Ballal continues to develop education and training for the public, also sharing the latest news that:

He said: “We are also excited to launch the Child Health Essentials course for caregivers. Our first cohort last week went very well. The course covers core skills including CPR, choking management and recognising common childhood illnesses. Sessions are delivered at the John Smith Family Hub, which offers creche facilities and strong community links. Early feedback showed increased parent confidence in managing minor illnesses, knowing when to seek help, accessing reliable information and responding to emergencies.

Vicky Scarborough, Executive Director Service Delivery and Integration, said: “Training and education are key areas that we look to invest in locally to support and strengthen healthcare provision in our neighbourhoods. We’re incredibly proud to support the work of our GPs and all professionals within General Practice to provide excellence in care and make an impact in the lives of others. Huge congratulations to Dr Ballal for his thoroughly deserved award.”
